For over half a century, Labour Day weekend in Nipigon hasn't just been a date on the calendar—it’s the heartbeat of our town. The Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival is a time-honoured tradition that captures the essence of Northern Ontario living: a deep respect for our world-class waters, an unbreakable community spirit, and the joy of coming together.
Nestled on the shores of the legendary Nipigon River—the birthplace of the world-record Brook Trout—our festival began as a celebration of the legendary waters right in our backyard. Over the decades, it has grown from a local anglers' gathering into a landmark annual homecoming, drawing generations of families back to the water year after year.
While the thrill of the catch is still our beating heart, it’s the unbeatable community vibe that makes our festival unforgettable. Fresh off last year's milestone jubilee, we are cranking up the energy for 2026 with an even bigger, bolder lineup!
Alongside the classic fishing derby, get ready for the high-energy slo-pitch tournament, our signature penny auction, and crowd-pleasing family races. Fuel up with incredible eats from local food trucks, shop unique finds at the bustling vendor market, or lace up for the morning 5K run/walk. And when Saturday night hits? The legendary Festival Dance Party is back to turn the sunset into an epic night of music and dancing. Don't miss out on the weekend of the year!
What truly makes the Nipigon Fall Fishing Festival magical isn't just the fishing—it’s the incredible community energy that brings it to life. This festival belongs to Nipigon, powered entirely by the passion of local volunteers, service clubs, and dedicated community members who pour their hearts into making it a success every year.
For four days, our town transforms. The streets buzz with excitement, our local vendor markets hum with the creativity of regional artisans, and the air is filled with music and laughter. It’s a time when local businesses shine, community groups rally together, and our unmatched northern hospitality is on full display.
"There is a unique kind of magic that happens when an entire town pulls together to celebrate its roots. The Fall Fishing Festival isn't just an event we host; it’s a reflection of who we are."
From September 4th to September 7th, 2026, we invite you to be a part of this living history. Whether you are a lifelong resident, a returning friend, or visiting our beautiful shores for the first time, you are family here.
Grab your gear, bring your loved ones, and come catch the excitement!
